A mortar-type Kapâla (Hemispherical Bowl Instrument)
in the Jaipur ObservatoryiJantar Mantar)
This forms a perfect hemisphere of white marble of 3.4 meters in diameter,
with a graduation at its rim. There are an infinite number of carved lines
chiselled on its surface as well as the names of the twelve zodiacal
constellations. Furthermore two intersecting wires stretch across the top
in the air in north-south and east-west directions.
It might have many functions, but we cannot know how to use this instrument.
